Mumma I'm coming home

30 September 2022

As we return from 4 months overseas, I am looking at what this trip has done for me, how I have changed, and what I have learned.

WHAT HAVE I LEARNT:

Time away is a crucial thing. It doesn't matter if it's 4 hours, one day, four days, or four months. Taking time out from our businesses is essential. To run a good, inspirational business, we need to relax, spend time with loved ones, regroup and reestablish the purpose of getting into the industry.

Reigniting passion – for me, this has reignited my passion for hospitality and building great businesses, don't get me wrong, I have been passionate for over 20 years. However, with the past few years' curve balls, there have been tough times when I've questioned everything about business and life and asked what the point is. But coming back from this trip, I am returning with a different spring in my step, more passionate than ever about building great businesses and helping others as much as possible.

Set big goals/dreams and have a vision – If I hadn't set a goal 4 years ago about spending four months overseas, it wouldn't have happened. Set big goals for your business and life, and take small daily steps to get there. Anything is possible. If you can envision it and believe it, you can make it happen. I read a great quote the other day - "Luck is the consequence of hard work and vision". Yes, there is the element of luck, that I was born into a family in NZ and not in a wartorn country, but having a vision, believing it, and taking action will get you to where you want to go.

I've also learned not to be attached to my goals. But be driven to achieve them, it is the journey more than anything. Looking back through all the places we have been, the experiences we have had, the food we have eaten, the fun times, the stressed times, I am coming home the same but different. I am pumped to be coming home, to get back into business, to see family and friends, and excited for the future ahead and the next big goals to strive to achieve.
