Standards, Consistency, Repetition

26 July 2022

The most frustrating thing as a consumer I find is when you have had an enjoyable time, everything was as expected if not better, you return to find that the experience is not the same and you are disappointed in your decision.

This happens time and time again, and what makes a good establishment? Standards and consistency. Setting the standards for everything you do, having the systems in place so that you provide both high standards are consistenty. One of the best compliments you can receive as a business owner is - always consistently good/excellent. Having this feedback is a really good indication that you have the correct systems and standards in place. People want to come back time and time again. And it's your responsibility to make sure this happens, with the ultimate goal of customers coming back twice as often, bringing their friends, and spending twice as much.

So what sort of feedback are you receiving? What systems do you have in place to maintain standards? Have you outlined the standards and your expectations to your team? And if so are you continuously reminding them and talking about the importance of them?

The key to maintaining standards and consistency is repetition. There is no point in putting together a document outlining your standards and expectations, passing it on to the team, and expecting them to follow. Think “consistent for consistency” what do I mean? Consistent chat about your standards and the impacts of consistency. If you let people know thy “why” of why things are important, it provides a better understanding of the impacts of your team's actions.

Successful businesses are not having once a month or 2 monthly team meetings to run over these, they are talking to the team daily about it, drilling it into the team so it's continuously in the forefront of their mind.

Perhaps you need to sit down and review your standards, what standards do you set for yourself and for your business? How are you being consistent with maintaining the expectations for yourself and the life you want to create? There's no golden ticket, it's small things every day that compound success.

What small changes are you going to make in your business and your personal life, to help the compounding effect? To help you towards the goals you want to achieve?
